The 5 Signs You’ve Outgrown Doing Everything Yourself
- Megan
There comes a point in most businesses where being a one (wo)man band just doesn't cut it anymore. Don't get me wrong, you are AMAZING. You have built something incredible that people love BUT, things just aren't growing the way they used to and you're exhausted, probably teetering on burnout.
It isn't always easy to know when is the right time to bring in somebody else so here are 5 signs that it's time:
1. You've a to-do list the length of your arm
I love a to-do list. Simple and efficient and they make sure I get shit done. To-do lists are great. But, if it never gets smaller even though you've checked off lots today, it could be a sign you need help.
2. You spend more time running your business than actually doing what you’re brilliant at
Let's face it, you didn't start your business to spend your days buried in emails, forms, systems and tech (I mean, I did but you probably didn't).
Side note: If you haven't read The E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber and you find yourself spending more time working on your business than doing the thing you love, you absolutely should.
The truth is, if the work that you love doing, that lights you up inside, is being squeezed out, then you've likely outgrown the DIY stage.
3. Everything is 'almost done'
Systems? Almost set up.
New Offer? Half way completed.
Sales page? Basically ready...
First off, if this is you, I want you to give yourself a break because I know you've probably been dousing yourself with guilt that you haven't got these things across the line.
You're only one person!
4. You’re the bottleneck and you know it
Could your business operate without you? If the answer is no, you've got a bottleneck problem and I hate to tell you this but, it's you.
That's not to say there aren't certain things in your business that need you of course. Nobody can serve your clients the way you do but...
If everything in your business needs you to move it forward, you've got a bottleneck.
Bringing in support will allow you to take things off your plate and gain some headspace.
5. You often say you need another 'you'
I hear this one all the time, "I just need another me". If you ever catch yourself day dreaming about how much easier your life would be if you just had another you who could read your mind, keep things ticking and take the heavy stuff off your plate so you can spend more time doing the things you love, that's a very clear sign that you've hit your capacity.
If even one of these signs hit a little too close to home, you’ve probably outgrown doing everything yourself but rememebr, that’s not a failure it’s just a sign that your business is ready for its next chapter.
You don’t need another 'you'. You need the right support.
